A former professor of mine is a rabid Democrat, and I won’t dispute that. Trump has given the world many reasons to foam at the mouth: tariff wars, a bizarre obsession with the Kennedy Center, and, depending on your tolerance for religious tyrants, the war against Iran.
But this same professor apparently hasn’t noticed a radical shift in the Democratic Party. Abdul El-Sayed, for instance, will not disavow the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism. He also refuses to say whether Israel or Iran is a bigger threat to the U.S.
I can’t help wondering whether El-Sayed’s worldview includes a demonic vision of Jews. That has become standard on the far right – think Tucker Carlson – and now, it seems, on parts of the far left.
My former professor has little to say about some Democrats drifting toward David Duke’s view of the world. And that’s the problem with belief systems. You follow the tribe wherever it takes you.
